In addition to the plants we buy in from more specialist British growers, we also have home grown plants (in organic compost) of more unusual seasonal herbaceous, biennial and annual cultivars.
We also offer a wide selection of old fashioned, highly scented shrub and climbing roses. |
Looking Good - Autumn
Autumn is the ideal time to plant your shrubs and trees. Use colourful shrubs such as Cotinus, Nandina domestica or Photinia fraserii ‘Red Robin’ to add long lasting structure and brighten up your garden. Other shrubs currently looking good on the nursery include Skimmia japonica, Viburnum tinus, Bay and Box. We also have a good selection of Camellia varieties, all budding up nicely.
What’s New
We have recently taken on our new stock of containerized roses. There are many varieties to choose from but as we stock only 4/5 of each type the unusual often sell out quickly. Two of our favourites are Guinee, darkest of all the climbers, it has huge deep maroon double blooms and a heady perfume and Fantin Latour a shrub rose with fully double flat flowers of blush pink produced in profusion with a wonderful perfume.
November is the ideal time to plant roses, as there is still enough warmth in the soil to encourage root growth. For a full listing of our roses and information on planting please click here.
Our new range of ornamental trees have arrived at Petersham, along with a variety of fruit trees this year, which include quince, gage, medlar, pear, apple and plum and mulberry.
It’s never too early to start planning your Spring garden and to help we have a new selection of spring bulbs in stock, many of which will need to be planted this Autumn in order to thrive. Our selection includes beautiful varieties of Narcissi, Crocus, Hyacinths, Tulips and Alliums
November Cutting Garden Update
Unfortunately the early frosts and recent wet weather have meant an end to our fantastic display of late flowering Annuals and Dahlias. The cutting garden has now been cleared, the Dahlias lifted and stored in a dry dark place and the bed has been re-planted with bulbs and wallflowers in preparation for Spring.
